Artificial intelligence is making it easier than ever for criminals to trick people with convincing deepfake videos and audio.

In an interview with Spectrum News, Bezalel Ethan Raviv, CEO of cybersecurity firm Lionsgate Network, demonstrated just how realistic these scams have become. Using only a simple photo, scammers can generate videos that mimic a person’s face and voice and then push fraudulent schemes to millions in seconds.

Raviv revealed that:

  • More than 6,000 Americans are being scammed every day, a spike of over 42% in the last two quarters.

  • One victim lost $1.1 million after trusting a fake Facebook ad that appeared to feature someone he followed.

  • The naked eye and ear can no longer reliably detect what’s real or fake, Raviv cautioned.

He warned that the risks go far beyond individuals: deepfakes could even be used to manipulate financial markets or spread disinformation on a massive scale.

The solution? Raviv says the focus must be on prevention, using AI-powered firewalls to detect and stop fake content before it spreads and he called for leaders and the tech industry to work together to build stronger protections.
