Find a time when intelligence would have given a person an advantage of a false sense of security.
Historically, being analytical, experienced, and cautious would have given you confidence that you were not the target of a scam.
Your perception of safety may have been based on the assumption that scams only occurred to people who acted carelessly, forgot things, or did not have the necessary knowledge to know that a scam had been attempted on them.
That assumption has changed completely!
The better scams today are also a change in how the victim is exposed to a different version of reality, which has been manufactured. According to Bezalel Eithan Raviv, CEO of Lionsgate Intelligence Network, the issue now is no longer about the “intellect”; it is about your exposure to a “crafted” version of reality.
The New Victim Profile
There has been a pattern observed through thousands of reports.
Those targeted by this pattern have all types of intelligence, many times exhibiting the opposite of the above. The majority of these people are professionals whose training has been to evaluate risk and make decisions in high-risk environments, which all have serious repercussions.
They have all been targets of fraud but have never been able to find any of the warning signs for these acts.
Raviv provides the answer clearly, that the issue is the calculated focus of power of the human condition instead of intelligence.
AI Aligns With Your Logic
Scams from the past typically didn’t work out well because they were usually out of alignment with the actual world, or things would appear to be out of sync. Like with fraud, there will usually be things that do not add up, such as a broken message, etc., or perhaps the timing of the request will seem inappropriate, or the request itself may seem to be made in an aggressive manner.
AI eliminates all of that friction entirely. The process of creating an interaction with AI is one that feels like a continuation of an existing interaction; this is what helps create effective interactions.
A scam that has a familiar feel will be the most dangerous type of scam.
Detecting inconsistencies is one element of intelligence; AI has been designed to remove those inconsistencies.
The Real Target Is Human Behavior
What is being exploited here is not actual knowledge but instead is patterns of behavioral & response to authority, urgency, continuity, and trust.
The above attributes represent fundamental forms of cognition.
When a request is perceived as coming from a familiar context and made using the correct tone and timing, the brain moves directly to execution without passing through any point of skepticism.
This represents the critical vulnerability.
AI does not break systems. It bypasses them by operating through human behavior itself.
Why Intelligent People Are More Vulnerable
This statement reflects a disturbing truth about many of these assaults.
As an individual’s confidence grows in their ability to make an assessment of their environment, they also act quickly when it feels right.
Ultimately, speed is what determines the outcome of the event.
The assault is designed to generate continued movement. There will be no artificial pressure to make an immediate decision. There will be no apparent urgency for a continuous flow of thoughts. There will be only uninterrupted continuity for the individual to continue to move;
Confidence is what begins the series of events; speed is what completes the series of events.
At the point when individuals begin to have doubts, that decision has been made already.
From Deception to Synthetic Reality
We aren’t seeing improvements in fraud tactics; we’re developing entire systems of interaction.
A message with context reference.
An established voice.
A believable video call.
A request is appropriate for the situation.
The layering of information builds on itself.
Although each layer isn’t necessarily convincing when viewed by itself, the combination of all these things forms a complete, believable, and consistent experience.
Synthetic reality of this type is now using social engineering as a platform.
Why Awareness Alone Is Failing
The majority of current defenses rely largely on being aware of what is going on around you.
Stay alert and watch for signals.
Trust your intuition! However, the methods stated above only assume that there will be anomalies.
If there are no warning signs for you to notice, what can be done?
If your intuitive ability is being manipulated, what can you do? Your instincts only exist in a given environment; when the environment has been manipulated, then your instincts are not necessarily trustworthy.
The Shift From Intelligence to Protocol
Intelligence alone is inadequate to be a solution. Therefore, all structures must exist outside of those that occur in interaction.
Regardless of how credible an interaction seems, all rules must be applied.
All processes must function independently of any level of perception.
Because of the nature of perception, it is subject to manipulation. Therefore, verification cannot be manipulated.
Thus, security will no longer rely on what is viewed; security will rely on independent confirmation of that which was observed.
A New Question to Ask
For many years, the only thing to ask was
‘Is that real?’
This question no longer suffices in today’s world.
All things we see, hear, or read can be created to look real.
The more appropriate question has now become:
‘What verified components exist independently of what is being presented to me?’
The limit where AI-based deception has been limited has been reached.
What Comes Next
Security in the years ahead will not be reliant upon just increasing one’s level of awareness.
The future of security relies heavily on how well software programs are able to analyze the behavior of an individual, the context surrounding that individual, and patterns of manipulation prior to taking action.
Prevention will take precedence over reaction.
The objective is to intercept scams before there is an acceptable level of trust; that is, we will be looking for scams before they happen instead of responding after they happen.
This change is obviously happening now.
Going forward, we will move from merely reacting to instances of deception to completely preventing them from happening at all.
Final Insight
AI doesn’t have to be smarter than you.
It just has to be long enough for you to do something about it.
During that period of time, intelligence is no longer the best level of protection.
Verification in an analytical structured way will provide more protection than any other method.
