- The method consists of the attacker displaying an “incoming balance” using a screenshot, fake transaction id, or a cloned interface. (Bitcoin Flash Scam)
- The victim is then convinced to send funds, pay a “release fee,” or finalize a trade.
- The attacker waits until the victim sends funds, at which point they either cancel / invalidate the incoming transaction, or they just disappear.
- The victim no longer has the funds that they sent, and the “Incoming” balance never existed. (BTC Flash Scam / unconfirmed transaction scam)
Scammers capitalize on users who expect instant transactions, pushing them into hasty decisions that bypass proper verification.
Because some platforms credit balances before on-chain confirmation, scammers exploit this gap to make fake deposits appear legitimate.
Attackers use the mismatch between displayed balances and actual blockchain confirmations to create convincing “flash” scams that trick users into releasing funds.
Defensive Verification Steps (Protect Against Fake Confirmation Scam)
- Always Demand Confirmed on-chain Proof (≥3 Confirmations for BTC). (Recommended to Mitigate Against Losses from Bitcoin Flash Scams
- Open txid in Multiple Reputable Explorers (Blockstream.info, Blockchain.com, Blockchair). If Explorers Disagree, Think Manipulative.
- Do Not Trust Screenshots or Links from Chat. Manually Put txid into a Trusted Explorer (A Countermeasure for Show and Steal Scams).
- For Large Amounts, Consider Requiring on Ice Time or Escrow. If Escrow May Consider Custodial Style Services with KYC and Withdrawal Controls on The Custodial Side.
- Talk to Staff/Clients About Waiting Until The tx is Confirmed, Do Not Accept, Pending, as Fulfilled. (to Lower Risk of Unconfirmed tx Scams)

- Document All Communication and Your txids.
- Keep an Eye on The Money Movement; if it Reaches an Exchange, File a Report Immediately and Request a Freeze (Time is Critical).
